Kali got in the car and took a deep breath as she closed the door. Normally, Aaron would ask if she was okay. Or turn on the music. But she got in the passenger seat, not the back.
“Um, where to?”
“Away,” she said as she rummaged through the purse. He didn’t take his eyes off the road until the bag hit the passenger’s seat. Something caught the light. It was gold and highly polished. It looked like a handle of some kind.
“Hey, Kali,” he said quickly looking at the rear view mirror to see she was clearly trying to disguise herself.
“Yes,” she replied with a grunt as she wiggled into what he could only guess now was a jumpsuit.
“Should I ask why there’s a knife in your purse?”
“It’s a dagger actually. And no you shouldn’t.”
“Damn it, Kali, again?”
“What? It was a set and their dumbasses decided to run the exhibit anyway.”
“In broad daylight.”
“In front of a tour by about 10 paces. I 3D printed replica and swapped them. Relax. It’ll be another three months before anyone figures it out. Plus, it’s mine.”
“Was yours.”
“Siding with colonizers is unlike you, my dear boy,” she said with a smile. All her could do is sigh.
“Where to, Kali?”
“Well, I have someone that needs killing but I’m hungry. What do you people eat in this day and age? Nothing sticks to your ribs any more.”
“Not unless you make it yourself and add a lot of bread.”
“Sad. Something as splendid as a 3D printer coexisting in a world where food no longer satiates.”
“So who needs killing?”
“Oh my dear boy. That is a secret.”
“You’ll get to get to them somehow.”
“Well people still walk don’t they.”
“You’re a woman, walking around can be dangerous. Especially, here.”
“Especially anywhere, time, or place. But I will be fine. Pull over there.”
Aaron sighed, “Burger cravings aren’t going to keep your energy up.”
“You are so sweet to be concerned for an immortal,” she laughed.
“You’ll find me, right?”
“Magic willing and a sacred relic doesn’t come against me willing.”
Aaron just shook his head and grabbed the purse, passing it to her. Kali removed a large gold disk and slid it along the arm rest with a wink to him in the rearview mirror before she left.
______________
This is the result of writing even after the original spark of the idea died, bad sleep and a bunch of other things came and mostly went and one single brain cell remained to make an attempt at finishing this thing…
Oh well. This is a work in dialog by the way. Me and sparse descriptions are besties like a mf. Lol
